Maremma: a territory to discover

Maremma is a wild and natural territory filled with secrets. Let’s discover together its history and the must-sees for those who visit this fascinating Italian region. Traditionally, the Maremma is historically divided into two: the Maremma Pisana, also called Volterrana, and the Maremma Senese, later called Grossetana. Maremma Pisana extended from Castiglioncello (south of Livorno) to Piombino. The Senese Maremma, on the other hand, represented the southern part of the Tuscan Maremma, extending from the Gulf of Follonica to the lower valley of the Ombrone. It included the Argentario. It owes its name to the fact that it originally belonged to the Republic of Siena.

Maremma also refers to hilly areas in the countryside such as the area of Tuff, the hills of Albegna and the hills of Fiora. Maremma Grossetana is undoubtedly the more fascinating of the two, thanks to the crystal clear seas of Argentario, the ancient villages such as Montemerano, Sorano, and Capalbio, and its famous ports such as Punta Ala, Porto Ercole, Castiglione della Pescaia and Porto Santo Stefano. It stands out for its uncontaminated nature and its territory full of suggestive images, from its sunsets to its beaches.
